'Foundations for Fostering' Training Course

 From those who made telephone enquiries, some have now successfully completed the ‘Foundations for Fostering’ training course which took place in November 2008, May and September 2009, and April 2010. Their comments about their experiences so far to becoming Foster Carers with TimeWise include; “I thought the course gave me a good insight into fostering, especially with regard to birth parents and foster children’s feelings.” “I feel that TimeWise may fill a very important gap for children who have been separated from their birth family”.

TimeWise are now again seeking to recruit more Foster Carers living in North Dublin, Louth and Meath and will be hosting the Foundations for Fostering training course again during the year for all new prospective foster carers. Shopping Centre Stands

We had a stand in the Omni Shopping Centre, Santry, on the 18th and 19th June 09 and in Blanchardstown Shopping Centre on 1st and 2nd October for those interested in learning more about the TimeWise Programme.

Services Provided

The treatment programme provides a wrap-around service to the young person delivered by our multidisciplinary team. The team have a diverse range of expertise and skills which enables them to provide a comprehensive service to the young people and families with whom they work with. The team members roles are outlined below:

  • Programme Manager: Manages the development of the Programme, provides operational management of the team and administers and ensures the  smooth running of the Programme
  • Clinical Team Manager: Responsible for designing, implementing and reviewing the individual treatment programmes of each young person
  • Fostering Social Worker:  Responsible for the recruitment, assessment, training and support of the foster carers
  • Individual Therapist: Provides weekly therapy for the young person that increases coping strategies and helps them to understand feelings that impact on their behaviour
  • Skills Trainer: Regularly practices appropriate behaviour with the young person by teaching new skills in the community
  • Birth Family Therapist : Engages and works with the young person's family and other key people regarding their relationship with the young person and associated issues
  • Education Worker : Promotes the young person's integration to school and supports their learning and confidence
  • PDR caller: Collates information daily from carers and provides administrative support to ensure the smooth running of the team
